Educating Slum Children

Children in urban slums learning in a bridge classroom program supported by Kram Yog Sewa Sadan

Overview

Education is the most powerful tool to break the cycle of generational poverty. In major urban areas, children living in temporary slum settlements face massive obstacles in accessing formal schools—including financial constraints, family migrations, safety concerns, and lack of guidance. Kram Yog Sewa Sadan's Slum Children Education initiatives are designed to bridge these gaps by providing flexible, accessible, and high-quality learning systems right at their doorsteps.

Through our localized educational frameworks, we seek to mainstream out-of-school children, reinforce basic literacy, and provide after-school support to help young students stay enrolled in formal classrooms.

Key Projects

  • Mobile Learning Bridge Programs: Deploying vehicles and local learning centers equipped with interactive educational materials to transition children from slums into formal municipal schools.
  • After-School Support Centers: Establishing free evening tuition centers inside slum communities to help students with homework, exams, and basic language proficiency.
  • Supply Kit Distributions: Providing textbooks, backpacks, stationery, and school uniforms to underprivileged students, removing the immediate financial barrier for parents.
  • Basic Digital Literacy: Setting up portable computer tablets and learning labs to introduce basic typing, internet safety, and interactive multimedia educational courses.

"No child should be denied the joy of learning simply because of their address. By setting up bridge classrooms inside urban slums, Kram Yog Sewa Sadan is ensuring that hope and literacy reach the most neglected streets."

Our Impact

Our bridge schools have successfully helped mainstream over 3,000 street and slum children into local government schools. Through our continuous academic support programs, the dropout rate among enrolled students in our target slum communities has plummeted, paving the path toward stable careers and higher education opportunities for these children.
